1. It’s okay to say no. Sometimes, the attention you draw when travelling alone can be a little intense. Although travelling solo can seem a little daunting at first, many people love travelling alone and getting to spend their time away exactly as they wish. 2. Pack a book. If you think you’ll feel a little lonely when out at a bar or restaurant, pulling out a book or magazine is perfectly fine. No one will bat an eye if they see you perusing the gossip columns or with your nose in the latest bestseller, so try not to think they will.

3. Don’t bury your head in it though. Although retreating into the pages of a book can seem like the perfect way to escape curious stares on public transport or in a restaurant, don’t do this all the time. This will ensure that you have opportunities to meet the locals and other travelers.
